Is it me or are a lot of Hosting Co's a pile of poo

First Portland losing all my pictures and not having a backup and now Fasthosts are playing up.

Well not playing up exactly, being completely unreasonable.

Our www.berkswelldirect.com site has been down for nearly 5 hours now. They say our cp-app.cgi script has been taking up too much cpu time. So they completely wiped our site rather than just disabling the offending script without informing us (Dan Pearson in Abuse) they admitted to that and they aren't prepared to get it online again for us to collect an outstanding order.

That the shopping cart software has been up and running since August 2004 is of no consequence they shut us down with no warning and without trying to resolve the problem.

I'd say look at www.fasthosts.co.uk actions and vote with your wallet.

Is this a surprise?

Who Should You Vote For?

Who should I vote for?

Your expected outcome:

Liberal Democrat

Your actual outcome:

Labour 3
Conservative -11
Liberal Democrat 42
UK Independence Party 26
Green 29

You should vote: Liberal Democrat

The LibDems take a strong stand against tax cuts and a strong one in favour of public services: they would make long-term residential care for the elderly free across the UK, and scrap university tuition fees. They are in favour of a ban on smoking in public places, but would relax laws on cannabis. They propose to change vehicle taxation to be based on usage rather than ownership.

Take the test at Who Should You Vote For

I am surprised that neither the Tories or Labour got much of my support and how the Greens and UKIP are right up there with Lib Dems. Guess its my issues based politics rather than doggedly following a single parties doctrines.

Personally I think Labour will still win the General Election with a much reduced margin (less chance of introducing controversal laws) as I believe the Tories deserve another drubbing (just like Labour deserved their drubbings of the 1980's and 1990's), lets not forget that the Tories introduced Speed Cameras and the concept of student loans, even if Labour built on them.

I got a free University Education (more or less) and so did all those politians currently in West Minister, so why should students now be treated any differently, if it was good enough for them it should be good enough for todays students.

I think the national minimum wage is good thing (although it should be higher), as businesses who can't afford to pay minimum wage should not be in business.

I like stable government.

I've had enough of Portlands shoddy service

Not that anyone will ever get to read this, but if you do I've a rant coming on. Portland have been very shoddy, not only do they delete your websites and then not have a proper backup, they don't even communicate this to you.

So I guess I'm going to vote with my feet and move to another company, so this site may be more off-line than it has been as the new domain server propogates throughout the internet. This all depends on the swiftness of Portland doing the transfer, so I'm not holding my breath.

Progress Report

Turbo seems to be getting his beans back, as we were woken this morning by Turbo bounding on to the bed with his duck in his mouth flicking it up into the air and then proceeding to worry the stuffing out of it. He has also started to mess about with some of his harder rubber toys and he doesn't seem to concerned about opening his mouth either.

V - E - T for Turbo

Turbo has been to a visit to the Vets today as he started yelping as if he had been kicked, as he was worrying his squeaky toys or eating over the weekend, we tried checking ourselves but he was adamant that he was not going to show us back teeth.

The vet said his teeth were in really good condition and he yelped again as the vet started to try to open his mouth, she diagnosed "Joint pain" and gave us some tablets to give him for a fortnight. We then have to leave it a week and bring him in for his vacination which is due in May anyway. If he is no better he will have to have an x-ray to see what the problem is.

It really is upsetting to see your pet in pain when he is trying to enjoy himself with his toys and he suddenly yelps and doesn't know why he is in pain, it has certainly made him slightly more subdued over the last few days.
